Sharing is how PacketStream builds its residential network: the IPs its customers buy at $1.00/GB belong to sharers paid $0.10/GB. If you are here as a buyer, the main review is the better starting point; this page is for people considering installing the app.

How sharing works

You create an account, install the desktop app (Windows or macOS, or the Docker image on Linux), and leave it running. While it runs, your connection carries PacketStream customers’ traffic and — under the terms updated on 6 October 2026 — PacketStream’s own “first-party” traffic: its Search and Fetch services, monitoring and testing. Both are paid at the same rate. Per the share-bandwidth page and section 5 of the terms:

  • You must be 18 or older and own, or be authorised to use, the device and the internet connection.
  • You install the app yourself, and bandwidth is shared only while it is running.
  • Customers see your IP address and its approximate location, not your identity.

The model is explicit consent — you install it deliberately — and Synthient rates PacketStream’s consent practices as low risk (see is PacketStream legit?).

Earnings maths

Earnings depend on how much of your bandwidth customers use, which varies with demand, your country and how long the app runs. The table applies the published rate and the 3% cash-out fee to example volumes; PayPal’s own fees vary and are not included.

What a given amount of shared traffic pays (before PayPal fees)
Traffic shared Gross at $0.10/GB After 3% fee Can cash out?
10 GB $1.00 $0.97 Not yet — $5 minimum
50 GB $5.00 $4.85 Yes
100 GB $10.00 $9.70 Yes
250 GB $25.00 $24.25 Yes
500 GB $50.00 $48.50 Yes

At $0.10 per GB, 50 GB of shared traffic reaches the $5 cash-out minimum, and payouts are processed weekly via PayPal.

Before you install

  • Eligibility. You must be 18 or older and own, or be authorised to use, the device and the connection. If your internet contract has rules about sharing the connection, they apply.
  • Bandwidth. Shared traffic uses your upload bandwidth and counts toward any data allowance on your plan.
  • Download. Get the app only from packetstream.io.
  • The rules. Section 5 of the terms of service sets out what your connection carries and how earnings are paid.
